How Often Should You Come to Class?

In order to receive the benefits of a yoga practice you should come to class at least one time per week.  It is recommended (but not mandatory) that you come to the same class day, time and teacher each week - it will help you deepen your practice.  Series of classes are for students with a regular Yoga practice.  In order to be on a series you need to be committed to attending at least one class per week for the length of your 4, 8, 12 class series.  If your schedule will not allow you to practice one time per week then you may attend a level-appropriate class on a drop in basis.

Financial Assistance:

Financial difficulty should never be the reason not to be able to practice Yoga. Rancho Bernardo Yoga has implemented a program to financially assist students with a valid need to maintain a regular Yoga practice. Students with a need for financial assistance to study Yoga at Rancho Bernardo Yoga are welcome to submit an application.  Assistance will be offered based on several factors, including the need for financial support and degree of dedication to the study and practice of Yoga.  Please click here to apply (Adobe Acrobat Reader required). Work Study positions available!

Arrive On-time:  Plan on arriving a few minutes before class.

Never enter or leave during chanting, meditation or savasana.  If you arrive late, remove your shoes and unroll your mat, take a breath, look into the class before entering the studio and enter only when the class is up and moving.  If you are late to every class then plan on leaving home a little earlier, consistently arriving late disrupts the class and is disrespectful.

Remove Your Shoes:  Do not walk on the asana floor with your shoes.  We put our hands and sometimes our face on the floor.

No cell phones: Turn off your cell phone before coming into the studio or better yet leave it locked in your car – let yourself disconnect for an hour.

Observe Silence:  When you arrive physically, let yourself arrive mentally as well.  Let your practice begin the moment you arrive and unroll your mat.  Let yourself settle into the practice, find your seat, begin stretching and turn inside.  If you must speak, be respectful of those around you.

Bring Your Own Yoga Mat:  There are a limited number of sticky mats available in the studio, these are for first time students and out of town guests and for people who have a practice rug and need a mat underneath to avoid slipping.  It’s more hygienic to use your own mat and it’s a commitment to your practice and defines your space during your home practice.

What to Wear:  Wear comfortable, non-constricting clothes that you allow you to move freely.  If possible bathe before class and practice with clean feet.  Please do not wear perfume of any kind.

Practice on an Empty Stomach:  It is recommended that you not eat at least three hours prior to class.  If that isn’t possible then eat something light.  Do not bring food into the studio.  You may bring a closed container of water but become of aware constant sipping and never walk about the studio during practice, if you need to take a break then come into a resting pose.

Honor Yourself and the Practice of Yoga:  Be Kind to Yourself and to Others.   Keep your eyes on your own practice and move at your own pace.  Don’t push.  Yoga is not  superimposing forms on the physical body, asanas are tools to open the body and to access your divinity.

Practice Regularly:  Come to class at least once per week and practice at home regularly.  Working with a teacher provides you with the necessary alignment feedback to enhance your home practice.
